Alaska State Trooper Anthony April is being recognized on the national stage for going above and beyond the call of duty.
Trooper April has been named a recipient of the National Life Group’s “Do Good Hero Award,” an honor given to individuals making a significant impact in their communities through volunteerism and service.
In addition to his role in law enforcement, Trooper April devotes much of his time to helping others. He volunteers with the Food Bank of Alaska, mentors youth through the Anchorage Museum’s science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) program, and raises money annually for Special Olympics Alaska by taking part in the Polar Plunge.
When asked why he gives so much of himself to the community, April says it comes down to serving with intention.
“Serving has to be within. It has to come from the heart,” he said. “If you believe in service from the heart, everything else will take care of itself.”
Even after he eventually retires from the Alaska State Troopers, April says he has no plans to stop giving back to the people of Alaska.
